Paul Compton is an illustrator, artist and print-maker based in Melbourne. Featuring creatures real and imagined, Compton’s work is often fantastical in nature, and through his work he blends aspects of realistic figuration with a sense of the absurd. Compton’s creations are a testament to the artist’s ever-present imagination.
In his striking work 'Logos', Compton harnesses the electrifying contrast of neon green against a deep black ground to powerful effect. The artist creates an intriguing scene - a face emerges from darkness, its curtain of green hair framing wide, watchful eyes and three fanged, grinning mouths. The repeated, rhythmic line-work intensifies the image’s energy, creating a vivid optical illusion, and infusing this work with a frenetic energy.
Compton has exhibited at galleries throughout Melbourne, and his works are held in numerous Victorian collections including the Maroondah City Council Art Collection and the Darebin Art Collection. For lovers of contemporary Australian printmaking, or those fascinated by fantastical themes, ‘Logos’ is a playful find.
