Charles Cooper’s practice is diverse. Among the common threads, is place — explored most recently though the road, a “source of symbolic and formal possibilities. One way or another, this slice of landscape is shared by all”.

In ‘Hillside’ he veers off the beaten track to crouch in the Australian bush. The result is textual and immersive. It courts the line between what is seen and felt, drawing the viewer deep into the undergrowth.

Cooper is an accomplished artist. He is represented in numerous public collections including at La Trobe University, Artbank and Wollongong City Gallery. In 2020 he won the Adelaide Drawing Prize. For collectors of contemporary prints and landscapes, get lost along ‘Hillside’.
