Diana Davidson is a well-respected printmaker, having worked with artists like Robert Dickerson and Arthur Boyd to develop their print projects. Her mastery over the medium is apparent in this original screenprint, ‘Tolling II’.
Davidson presents a landscape in three swipes – a sparkling sandy ground, swipe of yellow and wash of textured blue slashed with white. Like the tolling of a bell, the seaside rings in three clear notes: sand; sun; and ocean. The artist has used a rose gold metallic tint to evoke the shimmer of sand, a quality that shines in person.
Represented at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria and Maitland City Council, Davidson is a collectable and talented artist. For collectors of contemporary prints and landscape, ‘The Tolling’ is a graceful find.
