Jesse Dayan is a Melbourne-based artist best known for his dreamlike depictions of domestic interiors. Through meticulously considered palettes and carefully balanced compositions, Dayan draws upon everyday life while infusing reality with a distinct sense of imagination. He often simplifies, distorts, or reconfigures familiar scenes, using colour as a vehicle for personal expression and atmosphere. In Dayan’s paintings, the ordinary is transformed into spaces that feel at once deeply lived-in and vividly imagined.

In this painting, Dayan presents a domestic scene in which a table - crowded with assorted objects - sits beneath a window overlooking an overpass. The quiet, subdued interior is contrasts the energetic movement of the infrastructure and surrounding skyscrapers beyond. Here, Dayan demonstrates a strong command of composition and form, arranging each element with intention and rendering them with a distinctly flattened, two-dimensional quality.

Dayan has been a finalist in several national art awards, including The Arthur Guy Memorial Prize, The National Works on Paper award and The Ron Eutick Still Life Awards. For lovers and collectors of Australian contemporary art, the works of Jesse Dayan are a wonderful addition to any collection.
