Through the works of Rachel Dun, nature emerges as a continuous source of inspiration. Born in New Zealand and now based in Northern New South Wales, the artist, printmaker and educator draws closely on her local surroundings, using her practice to explore both the spaces she inhabits and her personal relationship to the land. Inspired by the coastal landscapes of Brunswick Heads and the rainforest hinterlands of Byron Bay, Dun’s works translate these environments into evocative studies of place, memory and perception.

Dun’s 2026 impression of Minyon Falls in New South Wales is imbued with a palpable sense of movement and place. Created as a 12-layer linocut, the work is richly textured, lending the print a tactile quality that heightens its intimate connection to the landscape. From Dun’s perspective, the waterfall rises dramatically above the viewer, its imposing presence dominating the composition and conveying the scale and energy of the natural environment.

Across her career, Dun has exhibited extensively in group exhibitions across Australia and internationally, in Japan and England. She has also been selected as a finalist in several national art prizes, including the Firestation Print Studio Artist book prize and the Burnie Print Prize, where in 2023 she was highly commended. For collectors fascinated by contemporary printmakers, Dun’s works are an intriguing discovery.
