Gail English is inspired by the palette of nature: the pale ochres of paddocks, grey slicks of sky, pink hilltops, orange dust and burnt stubble. She started painting professionally in her fifties, before leaving Sydney for a barn on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. The sea-change felt right – a return to English’s childhood spent on a property near Young. In 2008, she won the Country Energy Prize for landscape.

‘Wheat’ is a testament to English's understanding of colour. In it, she captures a field of wheat beneath a lilac sky, speckles of forest twinkling in the distance. For collectors of landscape art and admirers of nature, widen your horizon with English.
