Lauren Fahey is a contemporary painter originally from Gundungurra country, NSW. Drawing on rural lived experience, her practice often explores the evolving connection between people and the ecological landscape. Working primarily in oils, and using techniques such as transparent layering and sensitive mark-making, many of Fahey’s works echo processes of erosion and regeneration - an ode to her personal relationship with, and understanding of, the natural world.
In Fahey's 2024 painting 'Horsetail Falls', the artist creates an impression of a waterfall cascading down a mountain. Detailed in texture and rendered with gestural brushstrokes, there is something immediately atmospheric about this painting. As the icy water energetically flows free, one cannot help but feel the cool wind - an evocative representation of Tasmania's wild natural landscape.
Fahey completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at RMIT University in 2021. Since then, she has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Melbourne and Tasmania. Her work is held in private collections throughout Australia and internationally. For collectors of intriguing and textural contemporary painting, this painting is a compelling discovery.
