Lauren Fahey is a contemporary painter originally from Gundungurra country, NSW. Drawing on rural lived experience, her practice often explores the evolving connection between people and the ecological landscape. Working primarily in oils, and using techniques such as transparent layering and sensitive mark-making, many of Fahey’s works echo processes of erosion and regeneration - an ode to her personal relationship with, and understanding of, the natural world.
In ‘Where the wind blows’, Fahey crafts an impression of an angel-like figure, centred in an abstracted landscape. Completed in oil paint and oil stick, this work is layered in texture, with the surface of the painting reminiscent of the weathered patina of a rock-face. Through this mythologised figure, Fahey defies the traditional conventions of landscape painting, instead using the symbology of the ‘angel’ to represent unknown lands - not here, but elsewhere.
Fahey completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at RMIT University in 2021. Since then, she has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Melbourne and Tasmania. Her work is held in private collections throughout Australia and internationally. For collectors of intriguing and textural contemporary painting, let this painting sweep you away.
