Sarah Faulkner was a founding member of Roar Studios, one of Melbourne’s earliest artist-run-initiatives. Conceived as a proverbial roar against the art establishment, Faulkner and her fellow artists – who included David Larwill, Giardino Pasquale and Mark Schaller – set about dismantling society’s expectations of image-making.

Faulkner liberated painting, forging a neo-expressionist style that treats art as a journey. In ‘Beach Scene’ she depicts the ocean – curls of gray and blue waves rippling over the horizon line. Movement and air infuses every element of the landscape creating a moment of tranquility.

An esteemed artist, Faulkner is represented at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, and continues to be avidly collected. For collectors of contemporary landscapes or Roar artists, ‘Beach Scene’ is a compelling find.
