Paying homage to Renaissance Masters, Graeme Peebles reinterprets the still life genre through a surrealist prism. His richness of detail, use of chiaroscuro and depth of black are all part of what makes Peebles an internationally acclaimed printmaker.

In ‘Shell Collector’ he envisions a jellyfish, revealing his mastery over medium. The jellyfish is transparent, ghostly, luminous – sweeping forth from the blackened water, a shell absorbed into its crown. This collector is a shellfish.

Peebles is represented at the National Gallery of Australia, Parliament House, Artbank and most state galleries. For collectors of aquatic scenes and works on paper, ‘Shell Collector’ is a striking find.
