Kevin Foley is an accomplished Australian printmaker and experienced art educator based in regional Victoria. Foley’s practice is deeply contextualised by his life on a small farm near Mia Mia in Central Victoria. Focusing on the reality of rural living, he describes his work as a meditation on his “relationship to the landscape”.

For his etching ‘In a Berber Village’, Foley transcends the local, offering instead a glimpse into an international landscape. Using his distinct artistic language, Foley’s work captures the architecture and atmosphere of a village in Northern Africa - home to the indigenous Berber people. Foley’s narrative in this etching is defined by the stark, monumental geometry of the earth-built dwellings, where life unfolds in the rhythms of light and shadow. Using a warm and earthy palette, this work evokes intense heat, with the solitary human figure providing a distinct point of contrast within the landscape.

Foley’s compelling prints feature in both private and public collections, including the Dubbo Regional Gallery and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. For collectors of contemporary Australian printmaking, or those enamoured by unknown and evocative landscapes, ‘In a Berber Village’ is an exciting find.
