Kevin Foley is an accomplished Australian printmaker and experienced art educator based in regional Victoria. Foley’s practice is deeply contextualised by his life on a small farm near Mia Mia in Central Victoria. Focusing on the reality of rural living, he describes his work as a meditation on his “relationship to the landscape”.
In ‘Snow drift’, the artist captures the monolithic form of a mountain covered in snow. Monochromatic in tones of grey and white, the mountain in this etching takes up the majority of the image, with its peak shown strongly against the stark white sky. A change from his usual representations of rural Australian life, in ‘Snow drift’ Foley captures the drama and moody atmosphere of this winter landscape.
Foley’s compelling prints feature in both private and public collections, including the Dubbo Regional Gallery and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. For collectors of contemporary Australian printmaking, or those enamoured by scenes of rugged nature, ‘Snow drift’ is a notable find.
