Pasquale Giardino 'Angel with Heart'

Pasquale Giardino is a rebel in art and life. A founding member of Melbourne’s ROAR collective, his work deals in the good, the bad and the ugly. Like fellow ROAR members David Larwill, Mark Schaller and Sarah Faulkner’s work, Giardino is counter-culture, visceral and always captivating.

In ‘Angel with Heart’, Giardino draws an angel. Cartoonish and canary yellow, it recalls American artist Keith Haring, whose iconic characters were born from graffiti culture. Rarely without humour, this work exemplifies the artist’s infectious charm.

Represented at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra, Giardino is an idiosyncratic yet vital figure of Australian art. A child of punk, Giardino and his fellow Roar comrades yanked art back into the frontline of life.
