Robyn Gibson’s work explores the unplanned patterns that occur when humans interact with the landscape, building settlements with and against nature. In 540.69 she looks down at the Central Victorian landscape, paring back its topography to lines and blocks of colour. An edition of 25, each impression of this work differed, perhaps recalling a different vantage or moment in time. Is it titled by coordinates, population or secret code?

540.69 forms part of ‘Footprints’, a suite of prints by sixteen Central Victorian artists that coincided with the international printmaking conference IMPACT 7 2011: Intersections & Counterpoints’. Exploring themes of sustainability, reconstitution and recycling, ‘Footprints’ celebrated the Central Victorian landscape, experimental printmaking and the importance of conservation.

For collectors of contemporary art and works on paper, Gibson’s brilliantly coloured 540.69 is breathtaking.
