Anne Marie Hall 'Blue Eyes'

In ‘Blue Eyes’, Anne Marie Hall envisions a contorted figure, punctuated by fields of colour. The palette is autumnal – taupe, brown, yellow and dark green – but for the figure’s impossibly blue eyes. In so pleasantly colouring a distorted figure, Hall sets up an intriguing tension between beauty and unease, making the well-worn nude her own.

Alongside fellow modernists Joy Hester and Mirka Mora, Hall forged a compelling voice in an otherwise male dominated crowd. She has been collected by The National Gallery of Australia, the Ian Potter Museum and the Geelong Gallery, representing a unique and collectable perspective into Australian modernism. For collectors of mid-century art and female artists, ‘Blue Eyes’ is an arresting find.
