Who is ‘The Mad Professor Glyn’? Drawn in 1976, Anne Marie Hall’s portrait is a mystery. Perhaps he was a staff member at Larundel Mental Asylum, where Hall’s then husband John Perceval was committed between 1974 and 1986. Perhaps, Professor Glyn is no professor at all, but a friend monikered for his mad scientist tendencies.

Even though the identity of Professor Glyn is unknown, the viewer knows who he is. Hall’s portrait is a character study – a personality expressed in ink. Represented at National Gallery of Victoria, the Ian Potter Centre and Geelong Gallery, Hall is an intriguing modernist to collect, a rich addition to collection of modern art and portraits

If any collectors can identify Professor Glyn, please come to the front of the class.
