Robyn Hassall’s Return of The Native finds rhythm in nature. Against brushed black wind lines; to the left is a luminous bottlebrush, its fronds like dancers. Our perspective is compromised – are we looking down or directly at nature? From where does the native return?
Return of The Native forms part of ‘Footprints’, a suite of prints by sixteen Central Victorian artists that coincided with the international printmaking conference IMPACT 7 2011: Intersections & Counterpoints’. Exploring themes of sustainability, reconstitution and recycling, ‘Footprints’ celebrated the Central Victorian landscape, experimental printmaking and the importance of conservation.
Hassall is a highly respected artist, having exhibited across Australia. Graced with a quiet power, this work will delight collectors of contemporary and socially conscious art.
