Karan Hayman is an Australian artist currently based in Kyneton, Victoria. One of the founding members of Melbourne’s Roar Studios, an early artist-run-initiative starting in 1982, she alongside other artists produced work that acted as a proverbial roar against the art establishment, imagining a new model for exhibiting and sharing art. Since the days of Roar Studios, Hayman has found success as a contemporary artist, finding inspiration in her hometown’s changing landscapes.

In 'Ruin', Hayman conjures a playful, dreamlike landscape where logic gently slips out of reach. Saturated colour and simplified forms create a scene that feels both familiar and strangely untethered, as if time has paused and space has been quietly rearranged. A solid yellow platform meets a sky alive with flickering, dotted brushwork, setting up a lively tension between structure and softness. The result is a curious, imaginative work that invites you to linger - and to enjoy not quite knowing where you are.

Hayman is represented in numerous public, private and corporate collections both in Australia and internationally, including the National Gallery of Victoria, Art Bank, New Parliament House and the National Gallery of Australia. For lovers of expressive Australian art, Karan Hayman is a wonderful addition to any collection.
