Tanya Hoddinott is an Australian painter who is best known for her expressive, instinct-driven interpretations of the world around her. Studying Fine Art in Melbourne in the early 1990s, Hoddinott found inspiration in the local art scene. Creating paintings that are often lyrical and abstract, Hoddinott describes her artistic process as “looking for a lead… a process of building up and peeling back.”
In ‘On the Beach’, Hoddinott creates a vibrant survey of a sunlit beach landscape, a scene which is instantly evocative. Through expressive and gestural brushstrokes, Hoddinott brings together both abstracted and figurative elements, and from this painterly chaos, familiar forms suddenly appear. Known for her energetic approach to painting, Hoddinott uses this fluid composition to draw the viewer into the warm, immersive atmosphere of the scene.
Hoddinott has exhibited extensively throughout her career and has been recognised as a finalist in several major art prizes. Her work is held in public and private collections both in Australia and internationally. For lovers of exciting contemporary Australian artists, Hoddinott’s works are a compelling discovery.
