Frank Hodgkinson is among Australia’s most acclaimed artists. Despite travelling extensively, he was intent on producing an art of Australia, informed by its alien landscapes and Aborginal cultures. The results are awe-inspiring and various, figurative and abstract.
‘The Seed’ pictures a budding seed. The moment is monumental, a tiny triumph of life suspended in white. With great verve, Hodginkson treats his subject as sculptural.
It has been written that Hodginkson had an acute ability to look beyond the visible. “Art”, he once mused, “is an act of divination by entrails, not a careful record of the obviously seen… I find it necessary to sleepwalk a little”. He is represented in all state collections, and has been widely exhibited and written about.
For collectors of important works on paper, give life to your walls with ‘The Seed’.
