Brisbane-based contemporary artist Sharon Hunjas is renowned for her unconventional and vibrant landscape paintings. In her work, Hunjas often draws inspiration from the world around her, looking to urban streetscapes, 1960s fibro shacks, and breezy banana palms as creative prompts. Often vividly coloured and richly textured, her paintings evoke a shared sense of nostalgia, with each work constructing an imagined world shaped by the viewer’s own feelings, memories and experiences.
In warmly contrasting colours, the rolling coastal hills stretch out before the viewer, lovingly connecting sea and sky. There is something distinctly playful in Hunjas' boats - small figures that traverse the foreground, immediately evoking the sense of a warm summer's day.
Hunjas has exhibited extensively in galleries across Australia, with her sun-drenched paintings now held in private collections nationwide. For those drawn to contemporary landscapes and vibrant interpretations of the natural world, Hunjas’ work offers a joyful and refreshing discovery.
