In the works of Alix Hunter, objects appear just as she observes them, filtered through her personal perception and visual understanding of what is seen, and what is implied. Based in Melbourne, Hunter is best known for her atmospheric still life paintings, and it is through these works that she often explores the relationship between light, object and emotion.
In ‘Yellow Jug with Glass’, Hunter creates a classic still life composition, one that is charged with an intriguing sense of space. As with many of her works, light, tonality and form are central considerations for Hunter. In this work, her two arranged objects sit together in a shadowy landscape, speaking to the quiet harmony of the everyday.
Hunter’s works have been exhibited in numerous group shows across Australia, and in 2025 she was a finalist in the Omnia Art Prize. For collectors of compelling still life compositions, Hunter’s painting is a joy to discover.
