Christine Johnston is a highly accomplished artist. Her work is inspired by nature, gardens and the movement of time and light. Indeed, there is something of the 18th century Enlightenment counter-movement, Romanticism, to her work. She seeks to reunite the viewer with the power of nature, to remind you of its deep, penetrating poeticism.
‘Winter Rose’ is a portrait of a blooming rose. It is up-close and sensual, its petals pushing forth like a velvet fist opening. This is the kind of image that will delight lovers of art and you, collectors of prints and those that wear their heart on their sleeve.
Johnston’s achievements are vast. She was a Creative Fellow at the State Library of Victoria, and is represented at National Library of Australia, State Library of Victoria, Monash University, University of Queensland, Artbank and regional galleries across Victoria.
