Judy Jones’s Bush Dance feels precious. Intersecting rivers cut push against the page, their banks protruding, brushed with white and lilac pigment. In using experimental techniques, Jones evokes the texture and tone of the landscape; to hold ‘bush dance’ is like holding a piece of land.
Bush Dance forms part of ‘Footprints’, a suite of prints by sixteen Central Victorian artists that coincided with the international printmaking conference IMPACT 7 2011: Intersections & Counterpoints’. Exploring themes of sustainability, reconstitution and recycling, ‘Footprints’ celebrated the Central Victorian landscape, experimental printmaking and the importance of conservation.
Jones is a highly respected artist, having exhibited across Australia for over twenty years. Graced with a quiet power, this work will move collectors of contemporary and socially conscious art.
