Marketa Kemp is a Melbourne-based printmaker originally hailing from Prague. Kemp’s practice largely surrounds printmaking, interested in the unique features that emerge when producing one-off monoprints. Her prints largely focus on landscapes, capturing the ability for nature to provoke wonder, joy and introspection. Kemp’s practice traces a lifelong love of nature and the journey of an artist devoted to immersing herself in all it has to offer.
The monotype, ‘As above, so below,’ pictures an expressive snapshot of the Australian bush. Focusing on a river mirroring the trees and natural bushland above, Kemp captures the expressive quality of Australia’s natural terrain. As a monotype, this print is one-of-a-kind. Across her practice, Kemp insists upon the singularity of her prints, allowing each image to represent the unique products of the printmaking process. Within this print, Kemp invites contemplation, encouraging the viewer to engage with this work at their own pace.
Marketa Kemp has featured in several art prizes, notably being recognised as a finalist in the International Monoprint Prize at Megalo Print Studio, the FPS Australian Monoprint Prize, and the Omnia Art Prize. She is represented by Queenscliff Gallery and PG Galleries in Victoria and Mesh Art Gallery in Chicago.
For collectors of Australian printmaking and lovers of Australian landscapes, Kemp’s ‘As above, so below’ is a notable find.
