Helen Kennedy is a contemporary printmaker and multidisciplinary artist based in Melbourne. Working across multiple mediums, Kennedy’s work is not about the landscape, but instead focuses on our experience of it. Through her works, Kennedy investigates the influence that light has on our perceptions of form and colour, and her artistic practice often transcends categories of figuration and abstraction, working “in the space between the two”.

In ‘Wolf’ the artist atmospherically evokes a ‘wolf moon’, a term commonly used to describe a full moon in January. With a blue-toned colour palette, Kennedy layers organic forms over the strong circular shape of the moon - the “always present bystander”. Through her cyanotype printing process, Kennedy utilises the direct light of the sun, transferring it onto the surface of the paper, meaning nature becomes as much the artist as Kennedy herself. Through ‘Wolf’, Kennedy vividly explores her ever-changing relationship with light in nature, creating a work that is both abstracted and deeply representative.

Kennedy is an accomplished artist. She is represented across public collections, including at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and National Gallery of Victoria. For collectors of contemporary printmaking and abstracted landscape art, ‘Wolf’ is a luminous find.
