Peter Kingston’s landscapes capture the charm and texture of life on the Australian coastline. Never straying too far from the cities he knows best, he creates tiny universes within his work, treating each as an opportunity for visual storytelling. Witty, recognizable and infinitely delightful, Kingston is driven by a deep and genuine adoration for the places and people he depicts.
‘Edward’s Beach’, a remarkably intricate etching, captures the iconic Sydney beach. The more you look, the more there is to see: beach volleyball drama; topless sunbathers; poodles and seagulls. Each vignette brims with character, a loving ode to the great Australian pilgrimage going to the beach and pursuing a tan.
Kingston has exhibited nationally and internationally since 1978. He is represented in most major national collections, as well as public and private international collections. In 2004, he was the subject of a monograph entitled Harbour Lights: the art of Peter Kingston. For fans of Kingston and Sydney-siders, let ‘Edward’s Beach’ bring a smile to your lips.
