Elena Kolotusha is a contemporary artist best known for her realist drawings and paintings of still life compositions. Born in the former Soviet Union, Kolotusha has been living in Australia since 1998, and has been practicing and exhibiting her work since 2004. Over the past two decades, she has found consistent inspiration in the geometry, pattern and visual dynamics of the natural world, using her observational realist style to celebrate the quiet beauty and hidden narratives of everyday objects.

In Kolotusha’s work ‘Stillness’, the artist crafts a delicate still life scene of a feather resting on a stone. Using a scratchboard engraving medium, Kolotusha’s work is masterfully tonal, with the highlighted objects appearing almost three dimensional. In this simple composition, Kolotusha uses intricate detail and fine mark-making to create a sense of balance that is replete in the natural world - a weightless feather, and a heavy stone, existing together in harmony.

Across her extensive career, Kolotusha has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows, both in Australia and internationally. She has been selected as a finalist in several national art prizes, including the Ravenswood Art Prize in 2024. For collectors of eclectic still life compositions, Kolotusha’s works are an intriguing discovery.
