Damon Kowarsky is an esteemed contemporary artist. He is inspired by architecture, the colours of the earth and sky, and the relationship between nature and non-natural worlds. Across his practice he has worked in printmaking, drawing and illustration, creating imagery informed by his frequent travels around the world.
The 2025 etching and aquatint, ‘Burnt Lane III’ pictures an outlook over suburban rooftops. This almost monochromatic scene of brown buildings is interrupted by scattered greenery throughout the image, trickling down amongst the urban scenery. While absent of figures, this scene is charged by a sense of motion, made dynamic through the alternating angles of each house. Inspired by Kowarsky’s travels abroad, this scene could comfortably sit within the memories of anyone raised within a suburban landscape.
Kowarsky has received numerous awards since graduating from the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. He is a current brand ambassador for Faber Castell and has been awarded the Toyota Community Spirit Artist Travel Award and Collie Trust Scholarship in recent years. He has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally in institutions like the Warrnambool Art Gallery, the Islamic Museum of Australia and Megalo Print Studio.
For collectors of graphic works, ‘Burnt Lane III’ is a striking find.
