Damon Kowarsky is an esteemed contemporary artist. He is inspired by architecture, the colours of the earth and sky, and the relationship between nature and non-natural worlds. Across his practice he has worked in printmaking, drawing and illustration, creating imagery informed by his frequent travels around the world.
The 2025 etching and aquatint, ‘La Moinerie’ features several dwellings almost swallowed by the surrounding landscape. In this print Kowarsky highlights the natural elements of this setting, rendering the grass, trees and sky in playful detail. This scene captures the whimsical tone of a cartoon, hailing Kowarsky's background as an illustrative artist. ‘La Moinerie’ borrows from imagery witnessed during Kowarsky’s travels, maintaining the fantastical air of a scene from a storybook.
Kowarsky has received numerous awards since graduating from the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. He is a current brand ambassador for Faber Castell and has been awarded the Toyota Community Spirit Artist Travel Award and Collie Trust Scholarship in recent years. He has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally in institutions like the Warrnambool Art Gallery, the Islamic Museum of Australia and Megalo Print Studio.
For collectors of graphic works, ‘La Moinerie’ is an enviable find.
