Damon Kowarsky is an esteemed contemporary artist. He is inspired by architecture, the colours of the earth and sky, and the relationship between nature and non-natural worlds. Across his practice he has worked in printmaking, drawing and illustration, creating imagery informed by his frequent travels around the world.
The 2022 etching and aquatint, ‘Panorama, Koroitj’ is a print in three parts, featuring an expansive panorama of Warrnambool, Victoria. Centrally representing the rolling hills of the dormant Koroitj volcano, this print focuses on the intricacies of the Australian landscape. By dividing this scene into three, Kowarsky demands we pay attention to the environment we inhabit, offering a contemplative reflection on our surroundings.
Kowarsky has received numerous awards since graduating from the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts. He is a current brand ambassador for Faber Castell and has been awarded the Toyota Community Spirit Artist Travel Award and Collie Trust Scholarship in recent years. He has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions internationally in institutions like the Warrnambool Art Gallery, the Islamic Museum of Australia and Megalo Print Studio.
For collectors of graphic works, ‘Panorama, Koroitj’ is an exciting find.
