Known for his exuberant style, David Larwill made his artistic debut as a founding member of Roar Studios. Among Melbourne's earliest artist-run-initiatives, this studio pioneered raw, primitive and intuitive art, acting as a proverbial roar against the establishment.

In this early lithograph published by the Australian Print Workshop, Larwill’s imagination flickers to life. Dense and frenetic, the composition moves between human and less human figures, birds, campfires, tinnies, mountain topographies and even, an esky. ‘Outstation’ is a mosaic of camping, each icon drawing the viewer back into the warm memories of a holiday now past.

Pulled from two lithographic stones, ‘Outstation’ quivers with the joy of escaping the city to sleep beneath the stars. Represented in most regional and state collections, Larwill’s vision for art and life continues to resonate with our inner rebel. For collectors of Larwill, contemporary and Roar art, welcome home ‘Outstation’.
