Known for his exuberance, David Larwill made his artistic debut as a founding member of Roar Studios. Among Melbourne's earliest artist-run-initiatives, this studio pioneered raw, primitive and intuitive art - acting as a proverbial roar against the establishment.

In 'Waving Boy', Larwill's playful style beams. Childlike yet still cool, it sees a boy surrounded by the stars of his neighbourhood - a house, bat, flower and goanna. Core to Larwills talent is this ability to climb inside a childs mind without condescension. This is how one remembers their childhood, as a smattering of special stimuli and you, wide eyed, waving back.

This work hums with new life, youth and the dignity of ordinary life - all key expressions of the Roar sensibility. Represented in most regional and state collections, Larwill's vision for art and life continues to resonate with our inner rebel. For collectors of Larwill, contemporary and Roar art, welcome home this Waving Boy.
