Kir Larwill’s think before you print is a visual pun. A mixed-media print with conservation in mind, its meaning in dual: don’t waste paper; and when making art, be considered. Larwill’s practice finds new life in the quotidian, restoring ordinary objects and moments with significance. Whether a pun or broken cup, she can labour over a subject, applying multiple techniques to the same piece of paper.

think before you print forms part of ‘Footprints’, a suite of prints by sixteen Central Victorian artists that coincided with the international printmaking conference IMPACT 7 2011: Intersections & Counterpoints’. Exploring themes of sustainability, reconstitution and recycling, ‘Footprints’ celebrated the Central Victorian landscape, experimental printmaking and the importance of conservation.

Larwill is a highly respected artist. She has been a Swan Hill print prize finalist and commissioned printmaker for Print Council of Australia’s annual print commission. In an elegantly cool palette, think before you print is for the conservationist, contemporary print collector and office mindful of its footprint.
