Pia Murphy’s ‘The Lion Tamer’ is a vision of canine reverie. Against a mottled, apricot backdrop the Australian artist sketches her dog in various states of rest, peppered with garden debris. She has captured the dog’s favourite pastime – basking under a warm sun, not a care in the world.
Murphy's practice includes painting, printmaking and ceramics. She has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne since 2009 and has been included in group exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Santiago, Spain. For collectors of contemporary prints and dog people, the affectionately titled ‘The Lion Tamer’ will delight.
