Michael Leunig was an iconic Australian cartoonist, writer, painter, philosopher and poet, best known for his cartoons published in the Sydney Morning Herald and Age newspapers. Spanning the political, cultural and philosophical, his visual world was at once tender and perspective, forever preoccupied with the idea of a sacred inner life.

‘Felix’ is an etching on paper. On a golden ground, Leunig carves a constellation of symbols – a half-moon, asterisks, sprout, sun and coiling arrow, anchored by a serenely smiling face. It is named after Leunigs son – a sunlit ode to family and good fortune.

As special as it is rare, ‘Felix comes from the Leunig Familys private collection. It is a jewel for admirers of the cartoonist, dreamers and collectors of important works on paper, a reminder to cherish family.
