Michael Leunig was an iconic Australian cartoonist, writer, painter, philosopher and poet, best known for his cartoons published in the Sydney Morning Herald and Age newspapers over 55 years. Spanning the political, cultural and philosophical, his visual world was one of whimsy, wit and a deep humanity.
‘Untitled (Creatures Great and Small)’ is an exceptionally rare ink on paper. In orange, Leunig draws a lattice of lines, ducks and flowers, constellated by smiling faces. It is an image of serenity and daydream, an evocation of the artist’s driving belief that there is beauty in the most mundane of moments.
As special as it is rare, ‘Untitled (Creatures Great and Small) comes from the Leunig Family's private collection. It is a jewel for admirers of the cartoonist, dreamers and collectors of iconic works on paper.
