Kate McKenzie Lewis’ painting practice is deeply engaged with the Australian landscape. Spending much of her life in rural locations across Victoria and New South Wales, Lewis’ relationship with nature intrinsically informs her works. Through expressive, gestural brushstrokes, the artist creates atmospheric impressions of the land, reflecting both what she sees and how she remembers it.

In Lewis’ 2026 oil on copper painting ‘Reflecting Reflections', the Melbourne-based artist composes an colourful landscape scene. Rendered in energetic brushstrokes and vivid blues and pinks, the world comes alive before our eyes. The copper medium that Lewis uses gives the scene a warm, luminous quality - a glimpse of Australian summer, lovingly captured.

Since completing her Masters in Contemporary Art at VCA in 2022, Lewis has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions. She has been selected as a finalist for several major national art exhibitions, including Hadley’s Art Prize, Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, and the Len Fox Painting Award. For collectors fascinated by contemporary approaches to landscape painting, Lewis’ works are a momentous discovery.
