Mary MacQueen's work is expressive, gestural and experimental. Following the death of her longtime husband in 1970, she began travelling extensively and in turn, expanded her practice. From trains, cars and planes, MacQueen drew flashes of the land, catching its essence in a few intuitive strokes. 'Giraffe Portrait' stems from this era. Minimal yet assured, it is intrepid in subject and spirit.
MacQueen is an esteemed Australian artist who has received numerous awards. Her work is represented in state collections, including the National Gallery of Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria. For collectors of late modern and female artists, as well as the adventurer within, Giraffe Portrait is a catch.
