Acclaimed artist Marion Manifold is interested in female identity. Her work is a collage of influences – the history of her family, an early Victorian pioneering family, her surrounding volcanic landscape and iconography from the history of settler women.
The results, of which ruby red ‘Rose’ is an example, are intricate visual puzzles. Fragments of an eye, basalt rock, lace, rose and brick thatch together to recall that personal history always intersects with the histories of the land and its people.
Manifold is a multi-time art prize winner, recipient of a doctorate and collected across public collections, including at the National Gallery of Australia, Cite Internationale des Arts, State Library of Victoria, the US Embassy and Print Council of Australia.
For collectors of contemporary prints and female artists, ‘Rose’ will bloom in your collection.
