In 'Ramot', Bill Meyer distills the rugged, sun-baked character of Jerusalem’s hills into a composition that is at once precise and poetic. Executed in red, yellow and green ink from a single zinc plate, the etching captures the elevated quiet geometry of clustered dwellings rendered with Meyer’s signature economy of line. The work balances observation with imagination, suggesting both the tangible textures of the city and the fleeting impressions of a wandering eye.
Born in Australia in 1942, Meyer studied art history and languages at the University of Melbourne before training at the National Gallery Art School and later the Royal College of Art, London. His years as a resident artist at the Mishkenot Sha’ananim studios in Jerusalem during the 1980s and ’90s directly inform the work’s emotional and spiritual sensitivity.
'Ramot' offers a rare convergence of personal experience and cultural resonance — a work that brings history, spirituality and immediacy into compelling alignment.
