Reg Mombassa (a.k.a Chris O Doherty) has been a musician, clothing designer for Mambo and artist. His work is instantly recognisable, characterised by a fusion of the mundane – even suburban – and surreal, producing whimsical images that can pack a progressive punch.

This original drawing pays homage to the 27th annual ARIA awards, Australia’s major event for music. Mombassa’s band, Mental As Anything, was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2009, imbuing this work with personal as well as cultural history.
