This historical etching by German artist, Willy Müller-Gera, depicts fishermen stooped on the wharf. Boats dock while a woman holds a child, Müller-Gera’s pictorial style full of narrative potential yet still refined.
Provenanced from the private collection of noted writer and scholar Ursula Hoff, this work is an example of a collector's passion for prints. In her tenure as head curator, Hoff left an indeliable impression on the National Gallery of Victoria's Prints and Drawings Department, before going on to be Deputy Direction and London Advisor for the Felton Bequest.
For collectors of European prints, ‘Untitled [Fisherman’s Family]’ is a fascinating find.
