Sally Mumford is a contemporary Australian artist primarily working across printmaking and drawing. Based in Alice Springs, much of Mumford’s practice explores our relationship with the body and mind, and how these are interconnected with the natural environment. Drawing continual inspiration from her local surroundings, Mumford’s works are grounded in quiet observation, bringing attention to the subtle details of the natural world.

In ‘Rock Dance #6’, Mumford presents a vivid and layered composition. Through an interplay of colour, form and pattern, the work evokes the natural rhythms of the artist’s Central Australian surroundings, with its rich red palette recalling the distinctive tones of the region’s earth. Abstract in nature, the work offers a personal interpretation of the landscape, reflecting Mumford’s intimate relationship with and experience of the land.

Mumford majored in Drawing and Printmedia, graduating with Honours from the School of Art and Design at the Australian National University in 2018. She has held solo exhibitions in Canberra and Alice Springs and has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Australia. Her work was also selected for the exhibition Art. Letter. Home, which toured China from 2017–2019.
