This photograph was printed at Neue Photographische Gesellschaft – the world’s first, and for some time, largest photographic postcard factory. They developed the NPG pigment process and ‘kilometre photography’ (long rolls of photo paper as opposed to individual sheets), and simplified the mass production of photographs.

Vom Bischofsberg, Danzig captures the view of a historic city. The City of Gdańsk (Danzig in German) has evolved through periods of Polish, German and self rule. Dated 1906, this photograph is a rare and significant record of the city before it faced wide-level destruction during World War II and rebuilding in the mid-20th century. It represents a fascinating window into European history, as well as the history of photography.

From the collection of noted curator and scholar, Ursula Hoff, this historical work is an important find with excellence provenance.
