Susan Norrie is a highly respected Australian artist. She works with painting, film and installation, investigating environmental, geological and socio-political issues.
In ‘No. 16 Series B’ – a stencil screen print on canvas – her wryness lands on preposterous power. Against a lacquered gold backdrop, a crowned man balances atop two wine bottles. Norrie pokes fun at the legitimacy of monarchs, transforming the king into an absurd, precarious jester.
For collectors of contemporary and political art, ‘No. 16 Series B’ is a punchy find. Norrie is represented at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), the National Gallery of Victoria and internationally at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. In 2021 she was included in the NGA’s inaugural ‘Know My Name Exhibition’.
