John Olsen’s rare etching, ‘Bonnard at Le Cannet’, is printed on hand-made paper. It is a portrait of the famed Post-Impressionist artist, Pierre Bonnard, in Le Cannet – the French Riviera commune where he painted his last work and eventually died.

Olsen’s inspirations were vast: nature; food; people; the land; poetry; and his fellow artists. In this work he pays homage to the latter, imagining a spindly Bonnard in the throes of creation.

‘Bonnard at Le Cannet’ is represented in Ken McGregor’s ‘Teeming with Life John Olsen: His Complete Graphics 1957 - 2005’ (page 121). For collectors of Olsen and modern prints, it is a stellar find.
