Contemporary Australian printmaker Jenny Peterson uses found objects and flora as the basis of her work to create monoprints, collagraphs, etching and nature prints. The artist trained at the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, moving on to teach printmaking at Federation University. Essential to her practice is the process of collecting and using found objects to respond intuitively to her surroundings. Combining personal memory and rural experience with material intimacy, Peterson delicately layers textures, embossed metal and used objects to create images rich with text and symbolism.

‘E D’ is made up of four panels of weathered signage, the letters and symbols delicately abstracted into an elegantly balanced composition. Echoing familiar Australian speed signs, this print is a striking example of how Peterson turns material degradation into marks of poetry. Reminiscent of long car journeys, winding Victorian roads and everyday commutes, Peterson’s work is an ode to the beauty that can be found in everyday life.

Peterson won the Michael Beazer Works on Paper Award in 2024 and has exhibited in a range of urban and regional galleries including Brunswick Street Gallery, Gippsland Art Gallery and Perc Tucker Regional gallery. Her works are held in numerous private and public collections in Australia and overseas, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of South Australia, State Library of Victoria. One of two copies produced, ‘E D’ is a rare and nostalgic find.
