David Rankin is among Australia’s most accomplished artists. His work covers vast ground, from the Australian landscape to European history and family. In ‘Brothers’, he presents an expansive ode to fraternity. The image is strangely haunting, with its subject pared back to white markings. Swathes of red and purple fill the backdrop.
In 1983 Rankin won the Wynne Prize. He is currently represented in numerous public collections including at the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales and Queensland Art Gallery. In the words of New York art critic Dore Ashton, Rankin “is an exceptionally intellectual artist who is extremely alert to many currents in the history of art, philosophy and literature”. For collectors of abstract and landscape art, Rankin is an enriching find.
