Alethea Richter is a Brisbane (Meanjin) based artist who works primarily in print and paper-based mediums. In many of her works, Richter explores the complexity of experiences associated with our digital environment, with her detailed and vibrant works often reflections of personal and communal experiences. Engaging with a silkscreen medium, the artist uniquely explores the nature of the ephemeral digital image through a wholly physical medium - disrupting what we see and encouraging the viewer to reflect on materiality, surface, and process.

Richter’s hand-printed ‘Data Echo’ series is an iteration of her sustained engagement with the digital environment. In intricately-detailed grid patterns and pixel-like marks, the artist creates an abstract space that exists in the midpoint between digital and physical mediums. Through this subversive artistic process, Richter anchors the fluid electronic image into a fixed, tangible object, re-connecting the digital world to human processes of labor, materiality, and time.

Across her career, Alethea Richter has been selected as a finalist in several major national art prizes, including the Muswellbrook Art Prize, National Works on Paper, and the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art prize in 2026. In 2023, she received the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Emerging Artist Prize, and was selected for the Print Council of Australia Print Commission. Her debut solo show ‘Pulse Systems’ was held at PARKER Contemporary in April 2025. For collectors of exciting and intriguing contemporary printmaking, Richter’s works are a fascinating discovery.
